There are very few topics that are debated as regularly as climate change and everyone has a part to play in improving the current environmental situation. By now, most people are aware that recycling, being less wasteful, turning down thermostats and using more energy efficient products are good way to take responsibility for their own carbon footprint. If every person in the world acted responsibly, a big difference would occur and the threat of climate change may be lessened. However, there is no doubt that major firms can make a massive difference to these environmental issues and if they do not take action, the results for them and the world could be catastrophic.

There can be a tendency amongst staff to ignore thinking "green" in the office because it is not their money they are wasting but this is a very selfish and short-term view. The amount of money a company wastes in burning energy through unnecessary light-bulbs could be used in other ways. Perhaps this money could used on staff bonuses or in lowering prices or in engaging in other energy efficient behaviour so thinking small is a great way to start saving the world.

There is no doubt that switching to energy efficient lighting can help a company save money, so this is why many are switching. The fact that climate change can be aided by this behaviour is of benefit but in reality, most companies remain focused on their bottom line. If profits can be boosted by being environmentally friendly, most firms will act in this manner but they may be unlikely to do so.

The internet is able to provide information about how a firm behaves so consumers are now able to scrutinise firms and if their environmental conduct is not up to scratch, customers should take their custom elsewhere. When companies realise that not being environmentally friendly hurts their profit margin, they will soon start behaving in a more conducive manner.
