Clutter and Hoarding - 4 General Tips to Minimize Clutter

If we don't minimize it every now and then it slowly but surely consumes our space. A client of mine has found that these simple tips have helped her minimize her clutter and keep it to a manageable minimum. The tips that she has utilized are Empty It, No Room Means No Deal, Keep Laundry In Its Place and Be Consistent. You may find one or more of the following tips beneficial to you.

Tip 1: Empty It

Throw out the trash and empty the recycle bin often. My client said she found that an empty garbage or recycle bin leaves no reason as to why you didn't use it. She said as long as she keeps them emptied everyday whether they are full or not, then it doesn't allow either to get too full which would leave her an excuse not to use them.

She also said that she has found that this simple tip has drastically reduced her clutter. She feels better about her decluttered space. She said that she had found that doing it often it has become an easy little habit, rather than an overwhelming chore.

Tip 2: No Room Means No Deal

My client has found that this tip has not only reduced her clutter but has saved her thousands of dollars. She said she still has to work at reminding herself of this rule all the time, especially when she is at the store and the bargain just seems too good to pass up.

She now has to envision the item in her home and ask is there really room for it? She has found that if she answers quickly and honestly it usually works best for her. So if there is no specific room for that item then no matter how great the deal might be, then there is no deal for her. You may find this tip helps reduce the amount of new clutter you are bringing in; not only giving you a less cluttered space to enjoy, but more time and more money too.

Tip 3: Keep Laundry In Its Place

My client has found that if she keeps her laundry in her basket and takes the laundry to the laundry room everyday it helps her not to have the clothes cluttering up her home. Before, her piles of clean clothes would quickly become mixed in with the dirty laundry. Before she knew it she said she would have an overwhelming whirlwind of laundry that would all have to be picked up and washed all over again.

She also now makes sure that she puts clean laundry away as soon as it comes out of the dryer. She said this tip to keep laundry in its place has made a big difference for her. She feels a lot less overwhelmed by her clutter, joy for her accomplishment and loves not wondering is something clean or dirty.

Tip 4: Be Consistent

My client has suggested that this is ultimately the one tip that has helped her utilize her new skills and through time has helped her feel successful. She has said that being consistent soon made it feel like the natural thing to do, rather than a chore. She also said that being consistent ensures that her clutter stays manageable. She never feels like it is so overwhelming that she doesn't know where to begin, as she often felt before.
