Cognitive Behavior Therapy in the Treatment of Depression and Anxiety
CBT has been evaluated in randomized controlled trials (RCT) since 1966 and for each
anxiety disorder there are at least two CBT methods that are considered evidence-based in the literature to date (Ost L-G, 2008). This therapy has been demonstrated to have an ending effect that protects against relapse and possible recurrence of illness (Hollon, Stewart, and Strunk, 2006). The first RCT of a behavioral treatment in a mental health disorder was published in 1963 by Lang & Lazovk and focused on college students with phobias, followed by a RCT analyzing GAD in 1973 by Stern et.al.
