Cold And Flu Season More Dangerous Than Before
The poor economy has touched everyone's life even if you still have your job and home
. Many people who are uninsured regarding health insurance will get sick this winter. However, because of the lack of health coverage they won't be seeing a doctor and trying to let the flu or cold just run their course. While the days linger they go about their business and are contaminating other people around them. This can pose a major problem for the U.S. population.
Germs are so easily contracted. They are on the door handles, the buttons of elevators and anywhere else a sick person may have touched. Uninsured sick are growing in numbers and therefore putting the people who surround them in a position where they can contract many contagious diseases before the summer comes upon us. This is the season that colds, flu, stomach bugs, and strep throat are rampant.
These individuals usually can't afford health insurance coverage and therefore it stands to reason that they also can't afford the medications and doctor's visits that are associated with any type of illness. In many cases the adults of the family need to work and may go to work sick, which leads to contamination of others and their children have to be in school when they need to work so in many cases their children are also going to school sick through the winter months which puts your children at risk.
Those who don't have health insurance most likely are not being vaccinated for illnesses as well and this may mean that they haven't gotten a flu vaccine or even many of the vaccines that are required for individuals to have. Essentially this can lead to many illnesses being passed around again and again throughout the cold weather months. Resulting in more medical expenses for those with insurance and longer wait times to get into hospital emergency rooms and doctor's offices.
In short, the number of uninsured and underinsured in the U.S. is a growing public health concern. And while you may believe that their ability to insure themselves and their families is their problem, the truth is when the uninsured are running around sick and contaminating others it becomes a much bigger issue for the entire nation. The growing health care problems in this country are really affecting every last one of us and something must be done to correct this problem immediately.
