Collecting Schick Injector Razors

A craze currently sweeping the collecting world is called "Barberiana." Like the name suggests

, it's collecting different kinds of things that have to do with barbers and barber shops. Some people, though, go a bit further and collect vintage personal razors, too. One of the more sought after razors are the Schick Injector Razors, not only because they were the first of their kind but also because Pfizer, who's come to own the company, doesn't sell the razor anymore except in some Asian countries.

When the Schick Injector Razor was introduced into the market, it caused uproar. Col. Jacob Schick was inspired by the repeating rifle he learned to use in the U.S. Army that he based a razor on its action. Named the Schick Repeating Razors, he sold the product to American Chain and Cable which produced the razor over the next two decades.

The very rarity of the Schick Injector Razor is what makes it a collectible since it was mass produced but the fact that it's remained basically the same design from the beginning makes it difficult to date definitely. And it also means that it's hard to find on in good condition since men used it with the thought that there was always another one in the store.

You can find them on collector's sites online but eBay is really the most popular place to look. Since there are collectors that buy them to use, it's best to judge the amount of wear and tear on the razor. More and more men have found the wet shave to be really comfortable and prefer more previous designs for soothing close shaves. For avid accumulators, the repeating blades are a great thing to buy as well.

Dating the razors are an important part of collecting. You have to read up on little differences, like the dates a certain type of material was used or when manufacturer's marks were changed. This added knowledge makes the distinction between a worthless bit of plastic and a sharp treasure.
