Coming To Terms with the Need for Space

It is funny to note that, while the world is trying to open itself to new ideas, closed spaces seem to haunt it continually. Take for example major cities and you will see the truth behind this theory. More people are trying to get into these cities in the hopes of getting a good education and better employment.

Yearly, people from the countryside flock to the major cities of the world to escape the poverty in their hometowns. Once in the city however many of these people find themselves unemployed and thereby adding to the statistics. This added population usually stretches a city's budget to the limits as additional needs for housing, education and health care arise.

However, there are places like Washington DC that seems to be in the opposite end of the situation. During the 1990's Washington DC suddenly started losing residents to nearby suburbs. It seemed that more people were willing to call other areas their homes because of housing prices in the capital city. This situation suddenly brought the city space that they thought they did not have.

Admittedly because of the city's popularity, problems with office spaces occur. Unlike New York that seems to grow buildings on a daily basis, Washington DC did not share the same philosophy. As a result, many times firms encountered problems and clamored for meeting space. Washington DC officials then took the challenge of building more structures to accommodate this growing need.

As the need for more structures continued, finding meeting space became something akin to a game for some. This game was especially hard to win during the Christmas season or New Year when people flocked to the capital for celebrations. During such times, open spaces in parks become rare and so do hotels or any other available meeting space. Washington DC wells up with visitors during this time of the year for visiting families and friends.

Currently, the city appears to be getting ahead on the need for space as structural development continues. The sad news is the need for space will likely continue as long as the city remains popular. Although this seems to be a dire situation, its DC residents must remember to keep open minds as they hope for more meeting spaces. Washington DC most certainly has a good future as long as people keep this to heart.
