They nest in soil or under stones, logs, wood, or debris. Big-headed ants can be found around your home all through the year but are more likely to be detected during the summer months because of mating season.

The Black Crazy ant is another type of ant which is dark brown/black. They are called black and crazy because they travel in an erratic manner and do not walk in a straight line similar to the other species. They form long trails and can be found for long distances which can go up to 100 feet. Because their trails can be so long, it is usually difficult to find their nests and exterminate them.

Caribbean Crazy ants are golden brown to reddish brown in appearance and have a smooth and shiny body surface. Similar to the Black Crazy ant, they are also called crazy because of their erratic movements. These ants can be spotted all through the year but do not venture outside their nests when it is too cold. This ant in new in the state of Florida, most likely due to their liking for warmer climates. Carpenter ants are larger in size than normal ants as well astermites. Carpenter ants differ from termites by having dark-colored bodies and narrow waists. If they have wings, their hind wings are shorter than their front wings. They are attracted to damaged wood so if you are noticing tiny piles of sawdust around your home, then your homemay beinfested with carpenter ants. They can cause severe damage to wood and furniture and must be removed quickly after being detected.

Last but not least, the Fire ants are the most lethal among all Florida ants. They are called fire ants, because they are red in color and their stings produce an instant burning sensation and painful stinging from their venom.
