Common Children Party Games

A children's party is not only made of foods, drinks and party bags

. Since kids are the main participants, it should be expected that after eating and drinking, these kids will feel uneasy and bored. That's why as much as possible, entertainment and activities such as games must be provided by the host to ensure these kiddy guests will have a good time.

Party games do not necessarily have to be grand or the prices be luxurious, as long as they are well prepared for the enjoyment of the kids. Commonly played games in a kiddy party are Trip to Jerusalem, Stop Dance, Newspaper Dance, Bring Me, Relays, Hot Potato, Pin the Tail on the Donkey and Pinata.

'Trip to Jerusalem' or nowadays called 'Musical Chairs' is a game where the number of participants is greater than the number of chairs available. The participants must walk or dance around these chairs which is usually arranged in a circular fashion while the music is playing. When the music halts, the players must find a chair to properly sit on. The player left without a chair is eliminated and one chair is removed from the circle. The players then starts walking again with the music on and repeats the steps until there is one remaining winner.

'Stop dance' is quite a common game played for fun even when there is no party. Participants dance along a playing music. When the music stops, the players also freeze themselves and hold their breaths. Anybody or any player caught even with a slight movement will be eliminated.

'Bring Me' is a classic game where the host asks for a particular object from the audience. The first person to give the host what was asked is the winner.

'Relays' have different versions and make use of a variety of objects. One example is the Balloon Pop Relay. Two groups with at least three members each hold a balloon. The persons in each group who stand first in line race to the specified location where the balloon is to be popped. When the balloon has popped, the player goes back to the line and the next person goes. The first group to finish popping all balloons is the winner.

'Hot Potato' is played by passing or tossing an object around a circle of children while the music is playing. When the music stops, the child or the player who is last to hold the object is out.

'Pin the Tail on the Donkey' is another classic game where each player is blindfolded and tries to pin the tail on the picture of the donkey on the wall. The player who pinned the closest tail is the winner.

'Pinata' is a brightly colored papier-mache containing various sorts of goodies like candies and small toys. Each player is blind-folded and turns around in position before allowed to hit the hanging pinata with a baseball or sturdy stick. The player who breaks the pinata wins. Different countries make use of the same concept in their own versions of this game and call it with different names. In Japan it is called suikawari and uses a watermelon shell as pinata. In the Philippines, a palayok or clay pot is used in place of the paper pinata.
