Common Sense Approach to Successful SEO
Ever since,
Search Engine Optimization came into vogue, various misconceptions and myths have been propagated. Many myths encourage creation and use of pages especially for search engine optimization purposes. Few of the myths which are quite common are:
1. Since, every search engine follows a different algorithm; a page cannot rank well on all search engines.
Truth: Even though, search engines have different algorithms to evaluate and rank websites, there are some basics which have to be followed irrespective of the search engine to be targeted. Creating gateway pages just to spam an algorithm are soon detected and dropped by search engines. Any initial advantage that was achieved is soon nullified. Trying to outwit search engines at the expense of following search engine best practices guidelines becomes a time consuming and costly affair.
2. Keyword rich website content that a search engine likes has to be radically different from that for a human user and needs to be hidden.
Truth: Many SEO companies promote the use of gateways and doorways stuffed with keywords to increase their relevancy. These pages are just meant for search engines and not humans. This is a lazy approach. A good enticing site copy can be created with adequate use of keywords even while preserving its readability.
3. A site can have Flash animation and content can be relegated to gateways and doorways.
Truth: Many companies make website with a homepage full of flash, images and animations. It's a well known fact that search engines cannot get much information related to your website from flash and images and hence a website's rankings can suffer. But still flash is used extensively and gateway pages are made to compensate for the lack of keyword rich content on home page. What is forgotten that Flash and animation take long time to wait and may not render in all browsers thus making them unfriendly for humans as well. So, a limited use of flash has to be adopted for the sake of SEO and user friendliness.
Search engine optimization is not as difficult or complex as many
SEO companies would like people to believe. Steps needed for successful SEO are:
1. Neat and clean, preferably table less design.
2. Friendly and easy Navigation. No use of JavaScript or flash for navigation.
3. Use of Titles and Meta tags for keywords relevant to the site.
4. Descriptive content with proper grammar and adequate keyword without sacrificing readability.
Strict adherence to above steps will mean that a website is search engine friendly and ready for advanced link building campaign.
