If you just start a business, it might be next to impossible to run an extensive survey to know more about your customers.

When such situations occur, you need to rely on yourself and your ability to think critically and rationally in assessing the situation. Discussing and brainstorming with someone in your field can also give you a new insight about your marketing strategies.

First of all, you cannot be good at everything. You need to know when and where you should find help. Maybe you are a business owner who have great products. You also can take good pictures. However, you absolutely have no idea how to build your website from scratch and no budget to hire someone to help you. What you can do is to use free website templates. Modify your chosen template is easy and you can improve as you go.

Many business owners only rely on marketing research teams to gather information about their potential customers. For a start up company, it is almost impossible to spend a lot of money just to get accurate data about potential customers. There is an easy way to solve this problem. A business owner can also think about his own likes or dislikes of what is attractive and not. Think about spam email. How would someone feel when he receive an unsolicited mail in his mailbox with bad language selling something he does not need? He will know that to send people spam will not make people appreciate his products and will not give good result. He does not need to give it a try because he knows it will not bring the result he wants.

You also need a good sense of timing when advertising. Some products and services are not available all year long. Unless you are targeting wholesale resellers or shops owner who need to stock up for the holiday season, promoting your Christmas cards in June is useless.
