Common Workplace Accident Claims
According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
, approximately 603,000 employees suffered a workplace accident in 2010 to 2011. Of these, 26,000 involved major injuries, including 171 fatalities. While this does represent an improvement on previous years - with average annual falls of 3% over the past decade - the statistics do nevertheless show that workplace accidents are still commonplace.
Although some accidents cannot be helped, there are many which are caused by another person's negligence - most typically an employer or an incompetent member of staff. If so, the injured employee will be entitled to pursue a work accident claim.
Types of work accident claims
We have been handling work accident claims for the past 25 years and have helped many people claim financial redress for the pain and suffering they have wrongfully endured. Slips, trips and falls - over 10,000 employees sustained a serious injury from a slip or trip at work in 2011, while falls from a height are also a typical source of injury. Factors such as loose cables and carpets, misplaced boxes, spilled food and drink, wet floors (due to cleaning or the weather) and inadequate barriers all contribute towards this sort of accident.
Manual handling and lifting accidents - the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 states proper training, guidance and supervision must be given to employees required to carry out manual handling, while lifting equipment must be provided if necessary. Unfortunately employers do neglect these regulations, in turn putting an employee's health at risk.
Work related driving accidents - whether on the road in a vehicle or in a warehouse/factory with a fork-lift truck, work-related driving accidents can be caused by anything such as adverse weather, insufficient training, poor vehicle condition or an unsafe system of work.
Dangerous machinery and equipment - many factories and warehouses will utilise dangerous equipment and machinery, all of which must be regularly checked and maintained, while training must also be given to those who use it. If there is a failure to take any of these steps, employees will be in danger of suffering a serious injury.

Work accidents can happen in all manner of ways, with injuries ranging from anything from a broken finger to a serious head injury to a fatality.
