In this year 2010, Commonwealth Games will be held in India. This will be the nineteenth Commonwealth Games.

The games will be held in Delhi (India) from October 3rd to 14th October 2010. India has hosted Asian Games, but this Commonwealth Games will be largest multi-sport event conducted to date.

The official budget for this event has been estimated US $ 2.5 billion, and this does not include other non-sports related development like roads, airports and other structure.

The budget in Australia for the last event was $1.1 billion. And with such a huge budget, the expectations were high for the games. But from the very start there have been a number of problems.

The Commonwealth Games organizing committee was providing assurance everything will be done right and at right time. But there were lots of problems.

The Chief Vigilance Officer found severe variances in various games-related construction works that were carried out by different departments in the capital city.

Serious corruption cases, security lapses, were highlighted. Dave Currie, the New Zealand Chef de Mission for the Delhi Commonwealth Games, even paid a visit to the place and said," There are some realities, I guess, that if the village is not ready and athletes can't come then obviously the implications of that are it is not going to happen".

In Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium a canopy erected fell, which injured an additional deputy commissioner of police and another policeman. In another incident, a foot-bridge collapsed, which injured 27 persons. There was also a complaint which mentioned the flats in the games village were dirty. A lot of stray dogs were also found there.

A lot of corrupt people have already damaged the reputation of Commonwealth Games. Hope amidst these problems the Commonwealth Games start at right day and time.
