Competition Is What Keeps Game Console Industry Alive
If we compare the games today with the games that can be played 20 years ago, we can see how much our technology has evolved. From graphics, game play, audio, connectivity, to interaction. The games today can be played without holding a controller, while the games of the past needed joysticks and large buttons. There are even dance pads, weapons and instrument-based controllers that will allow the player to fully enjoy the game.
Dance pads that will really make you dance, weapons that will make your action games more action-packed. Heck! You can even drive your own car without leaving your room. All these things are brought by the intensified competition within the game console industry. Do you think we will have all these if Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo weren't there to compete with each other in order to get the most number of market share?
Studies have proved that playing games can improve eye and hand coordination, while enhancing your ability to think while taking the necessary steps. Games today are even used by prestigious universities to train professionals, even pilot schools use flight simulation games in order to test the skills of their students. All these won't be possible if game console companies don't compete with each other.
Competition is what makes this industry alive, and it is also the reason why the development of games is in a rapid phase. Game developers and game console manufacturers are racing against each other to impress the gamers and finally acquire the front seat in one of the most profitable industry.
How I wish to see the games that will be released 20 years from the time of this writing. I wonder what kinds of games will be played during that time. Will it be using controllers like the ones we have today, or maybe wires that will be connected to our brains allowing us to control the players and act as if we are the real characters in-game?
