There are many which can be fatal but one of the riskiest forms of diseases that affect most people is the list of infectious diseases. It should be remembered that infectious diseases are not usually fatal, but they can cause the body a lot of harm.

The infectious diseases can be defined as the clinically evident disease, which occur due to the presence of pathogenic microbial agents. These agents include bacteria, pathogenic viruses, pathogenic bacteria, fungi, protozoa, multi cellular parasites, and aberrant proteins, which are also known as prions. These pathogens have the potential to cause diseases in animals and plants. The infectious pathologies are usually known as contagious diseases or communicable diseases. As the name suggests these diseases have the potentiality of transmission from one person or species to another.

It should be kept in mind that the transmission of an infectious disease may occur through one or more of diverse pathways. The most common factors of getting these infectious diseases include physical contact with infected individuals. Apart from this, infecting agents may also be transmitted through liquids or sharing food. The other causes of getting these infectious diseases include body fluids, contaminated objects, airborne inhalation, or through vector-borne spread.In this reference the use of the term infectivity, has been done to describe the ability of an organism to enter, survive and multiply in the host. At this time the infectiousness of a disease is the indicating factor about the comparative ease through which the disease can be transmitted to other hosts. But an infection is not synonymous with an infectious disease and there are many reasons for the same. One of the main factors is that the important clinical symptoms or impair host function is not there with infections.

It has been seen that there are infinite varieties of microorganisms but very few of them can cause diseases in otherwise healthy individuals. These diseases occur from the interplay between pathogens and the defenses of the hosts they infect. Not all forms of infectious disease are the same and they may vary depending on the severity of disease, which results in giving the pathogen, the ability to damage the host as well as the ability of the host to resist the pathogen.Most of the infectious microorganisms are classified as either primary pathogens or as opportunistic pathogens because they act according to the status of host defenses. These primary pathogens cause disease due to their presence within the normal, healthy host. The severity of the disease caused and their intrinsic virulence are a part of the necessary consequence of their need to reproduce and spread.These common primary pathogens of humans only infect humans but there are various serious diseases caused by organisms acquired from the environment. These infectious diseases include the common cold, flu, viral fever and various other diseases, which have been acquired through another organism or from another host.
