Complete Your Evening Dress With The Right Accessories
Evening dresses or evening gowns refers to the outfit a woman wears to attend any formal occasion towards the evening
. It is akin to the formal suits that men wear for business meetings and other official events. These dresses were mainly worn by women during weddings, which were considered formal events, but with such events now permitting variation, the opportunity to be creative has found favour with a lot of women who try out different things on their evening outfits. The results are very attractive and lend a unique glamour to the lady wearing such outfits.
The more popular and common ones are the cocktail and sheath dresses. The cocktail dresses are preferred since they are available in a variety of bright colours - and given the leeway at weddings, are easy to slip into and attract attention. The colours need not always be black or red, and that is another reason why many women prefer them. Sheath dresses on the other hand portray simplicity, and can be worn depending on how you wish to project yourself. Halter dresses are ideal if you wish to divert attention from your legs and hips and would prefer people to notice the upper half of your body.
However, there are certain dos and don'ts associated with the wearing of such evening dresses. Let us look at some of them.
The Overall Dress
Since they are still considered formal wear, these dresses must appear complete in all respects. Besides the dress itself, other elements need to be in proper order to complement the dress and make it look like the person has taken extra care to dress for the occasion. Typical black tie events mandate a dress that is either full length or up to the ankle. For weddings though, cocktail gowns may be acceptable.
The Footwear
It is not necessary to go in for very expensive shoes. Pumps, sandals for evening wear and even elegant ballet slippers of the same colour as the evening gown will look very pretty and complement the evening dress perfectly.
Suitable Accessories
It is not enough to just flaunt an expensive and well tailored evening dress. The accessories need to be equally eye catching. With good accessories, you can carry off the evening dress with more panache and the right pair of earrings, rings, or bracelets can add more elegance to it. Opinion is divided on whether wearing a watch is necessary and does it classify as an accessory. Well, if you must wear one, ensure it is in the form of jewelry and appears more like a bracelet.
A Suitable Handbag
Handbags must match the shoe colour and should be just big enough to accommodate your mobile phone, money and any other valuable items. If you do not possess handbags in various colours so as to match the shoes, stick to time-tested black or white bags as these are universal colours. You could also try carrying a hand bag that goes well with your evening dress.
Accessories need not be expensive but just tasteful and elegant enough to complement your dress. They must not hog the limelight and appear to dwarf your dress. As long as you are able to carry off your dress comfortably aided by appropriate accessories, you will come out a winner.
