Completing Your Garden With Decorative Flags

Creating a welcoming and comfortable aura about your home may involve flowers and shrubs

, a front porch with comfortable lawn furniture, and even a lawn ornament. An easy and low-maintenance addition to your outdoor dcor can be one of a number of decorative flags. Flowers will add a splash of color, but not year 'round. A flag depicting a holiday or celebration will add that splash regardless of the weather.

The pineapple, the Hawaiian symbol for Welcome tells visitors they are warmly invited, and, perhaps, indicates a love of the tropics. While a flower garden will add beauty, a flag will say something more.

Stitched with nylon thread, the entire flag is water resistent and made to withstand harsh elements. They are machine washable, and can be tucked away if you choose to hang a different flag for whatever reason.

The decorative flag you choose to hang will say something about you. Flags with simple pictures of flowers speak of a love of simple beauty. Disney and Loony Tunes characters could tell of children living in the home or of a childhood favorite like Tweey Bird or Mickey Mouse.

Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving flags may bear Christian messages, such as He is Risen, A Son is Born, or Give Thanks. Christian images, such as a cross, the Nativity, and pictures of Christ Himself may adorn your door or garden. If you cannot find the flag you are seeking, some websites will offer customizing so you can design your own. This is ideal if you are conforming to a specific theme or color scheme in your decorating.

Holidays can be heralded using decorative flags for secular messages as well. Most holidays have their own colors and icons associated with them. Saint Patrick's Day has green shamrocks and leprechauns; Valentine's Day has red and pink hearts and cupids. All you really need to decide is if you prefer cute, cartoon-like images, or more realistic pictures. St. Patrick's Day, for example, may be represented by a silly looking leprechaun dancing around a pot of gold; on the other hand, the flag may contain a Celtic cross on a fleid off green. Yet another option may include artfully crafted leprechauns layered together in varying shades of green.

The fact that you are decorating for the holiday speaks only one message about you; how you choose to decorate tellse the rest of the story. A flag can bring out your character each time you choose to hang one.
