Completing Your Redecorating Efforts With An Area Rug
If you are considering changing a theme in a room of your home try adding an area rug
. By doing this to the existing design you'll create a different look without having to spend extra money on furniture and other decor for the room.
Area rugs have changes in the past several years from what they use to be. There are so many shapes, sizes, and patterns to choose from. There's always going to be an area rug design for everyone who is shopping for one but it may take awhile to find that perfect one. If you're looking to make the design a different style as you had before don't hesitate to use a unique area rug which you wouldn't have used before.
If you aren't quite sure which shape will best fit your room's needs, take these tips into consideration. You no longer have just oval, round, square, and rectangle to choose from when it comes to area rugs. You have great octagon and hexagon shapes now. Smaller rooms usually will be suited with a circular rug or an oval one which doesn't cover most of the floor. By using a large rug in a small area, it may seem too cluttered and take away the warmth which you want to feel. Now if it's a larger room the square or rectangular shaped area rugs will work great since you have that extra area to work with and they usually are larger rugs. You also can use larger oval and circular rugs in larger areas if you find something which fits your style.
What Size Is Best?- An area rug that is used underneath furniture should be large enough so no part of the furniture that is placed on it is off the rug. For a dining room, the area rug should be about 36 inches longer and wider than the table to prevent the back chair legs from going off the rug when the chair is scooted backwards. In a living room setting, you can choose to leave your sofas off the rug and only place other pieces of furniture on it, such as a coffee table. Make sure you measure the area where you want the rug. You certainly don't want to buy an area that is too large or too small.
If you have a room in the home which is used quite often you should invest in a wool area rug. These will give you a better life time wear since it's all natural and durable. Try to avoid cotton, silk, or even bamboo rugs since they don't have the wear and tear like the thicker rugs. You see how your clothes get after washing them many times. They get thin and worn which is not what you want for a busy room.
Which Patterns Are Best?- This is completely up to you! For rooms that have extensive decorating, you may want a rather simple pattern and color scheme. For a room that is very low-key, a beautiful, busy pattern can add a splash of excitement. Consider what feeling you are trying to evoke in those that enter the room. This will help you choose the right pattern for your area rug.
Another great thing to remember about area rugs is that they are rather easy to change. You can have one rug for the fall and winter months and another that fits better with spring and summer. If you decide to store your rug in your home, keep it in a dry area and cover it with plastic to avoid any chance of a lone mouse calling it their home.
