Compression Technologies For Cctv Security Systems
The CCTV security systems are now getting wider recognition and application world wide
. In the infancy the concept was not so elaborate and general public was not in need of the same to guard the valuable locations due to less security threats. But due to the rise in various criminal assaults & major political changes, the impact over the society remains at a peak level.
The necessity of CCTV Arises almost at every location from normal residential location to hi tech shopping malls. Assuming the primitive & obsolete technologies using VCR tape recording, the clients have moved to mid & higher end for larger data storage & tape-less records using DVRs & NVRs thereby replacing the VCRs.But it have always remained a challenge that how to & where to store more videos without using expensive resources.
The compression technologies are the greatest contributing factors for the storage of the Videos using less space. Let us start from basic to higher. The Journey of Video compress technologies for CCTV starts from Wavelet & at the moment terminates on H.264 compression technologies.
Wavelet, M-JPEG, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, JPEG-2000, H.264 technologies are widely used in CCTV applications and none of them is still primitive.
Wavelet Compression Technology
It is a form of data compression well suited for image compression and sometimes also video & audio compression. Wavelet compression can be either lossless or lossy and the file size using this technique is higher than any other compression technology. Like Proline UK in its obsolete DVRs like PR 777, PR 1004, PR 1008, PR 1016 used the same compression technology .The only issue was that higher Hard Disk storages were needed even for the minimal stages of recording & the units became obsolete within period of time. The data transmission for the wavelet technologies is highly dependant on the wider bandwidth; hence the remote viewing is never so fast as expected.
Motion JPEG
In CCTV Technology, Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) is an informal name for a class of video formats where each video frame or interlaced field of a digital video sequence is separately compressed as a JPEG image. Originally developed for multimedia PC applications, where more advanced formats have displaced it, M-JPEG is now used by many portable devices with video-capture capability, such as digital cameras.
