A person who lies can be considered a cheater. When you copy answers from another person or a book in school, it is understood you have cheated. Having an affair or lying to a love is another form of cheating. In a sports game, if you get ahead by violating the rules, you have also cheated.

Cheating in a computer game, however, doesn't generally equate to lying or taking an unfair advantage to your opponent. To alter the gaming experience so you can take the lead, is usually the case. In each computer game, cheating differs and it is dependent on what the layers have previously agreed upon.

"Cheat codes" are usually acceptable to use and make the game more simple. Cheat codes are designed for new players to simplify their game play. These codes could mean cheating, but you are not using them to gain over other players.

Cheating in a game unfairly is most prevalent in player online games. In most of these games, a player is anonymous, so they can boldly cheat.

There are various types of computer game cheats. Some of these cheats involve changing user settings, using bugs, and/or external software.

Altering computer settings, layout, or the game could be considered cheating.

This can be acceptable, however. Going as far as modifying the color and brightness of your computer to see through a shadowy area can be questionable.

Exploits are game features that the developers erroneously placed in the game. When used to gain unfair advantage of your opponent, they can be considered cheats. Some of these exploits make the game more fun and exciting. The use of external software designed to let the player leas the game by modifying the program that the game runs on is considered as bad as cheating. Some of these game cheats analyze the game's status in the RAM of the computer.

"Cheesing" is a way that a player might attempt to take the lead in a game. Virtual players might do things that are unlikely in real life within these games. Many players don't consider this a type of cheating, but others would disapprove.

Computer game cheats these days are caused by alterations made in the software of the game. The developers' prohibited the modification of the original codes. Without altering the main program, it is simple to revise the data files.

When considering the activities that could be considered cheating, stopping all forms would be nearly impossible. There is software that can be installed on the server itself to help against computer game cheating.
