Suppression of minor complex feature, geometric simplification for affordable analysis, it is often necessary to remove minor complexities from the CAD geometry before conducting analysis e. g. threads need to be suppressed, small protrusions that are not carrying load need to be removed.
Another major simplification that needs to be recognized and used is presence of any symmetry. If the geometry is symmetric about any plane and the loading is either symmetric or anti-symmetric, then only half the body needs to be modeled with appropriate boundary condition.
Meshing- This is done by generating a finite element mesh for the solid, two general techniques: manual meshing and automatic meshing.
Manual Meshing: In this technique the analyst manually defines nodes and elements. Rarely done now except for the most complex cases where automatic meshing software fails or the analyst wants better quality of mesh.
Automatic Meshing: This is achieved by splitting opposite boundary edges (2D)/faces (3D) into a set number of segments and connecting them with lines-with the intersections defining interior nodes.
Thus this requires the body to have a regular number (3 or 4) "edges" and equal number of nodes on opposite edges. This may be too restrictive for complex geometry or the presence of holes but usually produces good mesh quality (well shaped elements) conducting by computer when they work.
Specifying boundary condition: This is done by specifying the boundary conditions for the problem, Appending the constraints and loads according to the working situation: include parameters, types, loads and constraints, the properties of the material as well.
Solving nodal equilibrium equations . This process is conducted by computer. Calculating and analyzing the results: the results include nodal displacements, element stresses, and support reactions, which calculated desired quantities (e. g. , strains and stresses) at selected elements.
The meshed model and the stress result of the exampled solid models are respectively shown in Fig. 7. 12 and Fig. 7. 13.The success of computer-aided manufacturing systems depends upon integration of hardware and software functioning in the overall information flow.
CAM hardware elements include NC machine tools, inspection equipment, digital computers, and
related devices.
CAM software is an interrelated mesh of computer programming systems that serve to monitor, process, and ultimately control the flow of manufacturing data and CAM hardware. In this section the software elements of the CAM system are examined in relation to the flow of information.
A computer based manufacturing system relies upon both real time and stared information that is readily available in an accessible form. Real time data, such as AC feedback, is generally processed immediately and, except for record keeping purposes, can be considered transient information.
Stored data provides the CAM system with all necessary input required to perform control and analysis functions. All forms of stored data are maintained in a database that can be accessed at extremely high speed by computer.
