Computer Repair Service Agreement

A computer repairing service agreement can be comfortable or not depending upon who

you are working with and how aware you are of what to look for in such agreement. With a bad agreement, you could end up spending about the cost of a new computer; worse: you could end up paying that much just to be advised to buy a new computer!

There are a few simple questions that you need to ask. First, the hourly rate. Now this should be obvious, but many people simply forget, and then do not understand what hit them. Next comes the 'how many hours will it take to fix the problem' question. No technician will give you anything concrete. However, if the company refuses to give you even their best guess, it is better to look elsewhere.

Regarding the rates, Fifty to Seventy Dollars an hour is supposed to be an average rate anything below that is probably bad service and anything above is could be a rip off. But you might want to ask your friends and colleagues about their experience. In fact, you should probably begin with this step: ask people you know for reference. That way, you can be assured of at least one instance of good work a given company has offered.

Beware of outrageously generous offers. One of the most popular is where they say that you will not be charged unless your computer is fixed. This may actually be what it sounds like if your repair company is literally next door, but when a technician has to spend time and fuel to reach your home, it is quite unrealistic, really. If you read the small print, you will most likely find that just about anything from advice regarding how such unfixable problems could be prevented to buying a new computer is to be regarded as a 'fix'. There you go: now you have to pay because they provided you with a fix! The sneaky approach is not appreciated, of course, but you must be practical and expect to pay a minimum price when the technician comes, whether he is able to fix your problem or not. Usually, it is an hour's fee that you have to pay at a minimum.

The only other things that you need to know are if it is economical to take your computer for repairs rather than the technician coming down to inspect it, how long it would take for the company to return your computer and, most important: if there are any hidden costs or so called surcharges. No matter what the answers, make sure you are comfortable with them before you enter into any computer repair service agreement.
