There is no doubt in my mind or anyone else's for that fact that having to deal with a computer running slow is not something most of us are happy to deal with. What's worse is the fact that most times we are likely going to pay some overpriced technical support guy to look over our PC.

We don't have the money right now to go out and purchase a brand new computer just for the fun of it. There are thing we can do ourselves though as computer users to help restore our computers performance without calling out a technician every month.

Let's look at some of the common causes of poor computer performance and their solutions.

#1 First, your computer could have been compromised by one of the many viruses, malware and spyware out there on the internet. These programs do not always cause destruction to your computer or give your personal information to someone who should not have it. Sometimes they will just get on your PC and cause slow computer performance. This can be easily remedied by downloading and running a system and registry scanner which will search for running malware and stop it and prevent your computer running slow.

#2 Let's look at the files on your PC. Especially the number of files as well as how disorganized they are. Understand that larger and larger hard drives are coming out on the market, but the more full they get the slower they perform after a certain point. If you have not organized your files with the use of a defragmentation tool you could be slowing performance down as well.

Defragmentation is simply a big word for organizing all the files on your computer for faster access. The best thing you can do is take files such as movies, pictures, etc and move them off your computer on an external backup. They come in several different designs and sizes, so there is something out there for whatever your needs. As for the defragmentation, it's something you need to do at least once a month, possibly more depending on how much you use your PC to stop your computer running slow.

#3 If your computer registry is filed with errors and old entries that are simply no longer accurate or even corrupted this can cause slow computer performance. The registry is a directory for every file and setting on your computer. If a file location is incorrect there, you PC must manually search for the file till it's found. If the problem gets bad enough you could easily find your computer crashing or even having blue screen errors.

This problem can be fixed quickly and your computer optimized by running a system and registry scanner. This does not just look for minor registry errors like a simple registry scanner does, but will scan all of your computer for errors and problems and fix them quickly.
