#2 The second step is update your antivirus software then run a full system scan. If you think because your antivirus software has run a quick scan and found nothing your computer is not infected this can be a mistake. You need to run a full system scan and then follow some other steps to ensure your computer is clean. Some malware will not be detected by some types of antivirus software.

#3 The next step is to ensure that you get rid of anything that your antivirus software has not detected. There is software that will find trojans and spyware that most antivirus software has no chance of finding. Here are several you can download and use to get rid of anything malicious. Prepare to be shocked at all the junk they find inside your computer. You can use a system and registry scanner to clean it up anf optimize it.

#4 The final step is the most decisive. Even after going through all this you are not in the clear yet. Malware has a nasty habit of hiding away in the windows registry and then using windows registry entries to download itself again after you have removed it. Download and run a system and registry scanner and make sure it is a well known one and not more malware!
