Conn Light And Power Racing To Keep Customers By Reducing Rates Some Speculate

Conn Light and Power recently announces they will be reducing rates in the following year

.

This was recently announced to the Connecticut State Residents and is being talked about by many. Some home owners are wondering if they should come back to CL&P when the rates fall.

Why are the Rates going to be reduced?

Conn Light and Power does adjust their rates from time to time depending on market analysis and energy costs among other things. But some theorize there is more to this rate reduction then normal.

Another thing to note is traditionally winter rates are lower for many Public Utilities because electrical demands are not as high in the winter with people using gas and oil to heat their homes.

In the summer, electricity rates usually are higher because of the soaring consumption to run air conditioners. That's why brown outs tend to occur in the hot summer months across the country, particularly during heat waves.

Is there more to this rate reduction than business as usual?

This claim comes from the mass exodus of customers from Connecticut Light and Power to many other providers since the deregulation of the residential market in Connecticut. Some estimates show as many as 30-40% of Connecticut residents have changed to other providers in the last few years.

Why wouldn't people change their electrical source when they can get the same product, electricity, for a reduced rate? There are many competitors that sell electricity now in Connecticut since the deregulation of the market.

The question remains, will Connecticut Light and Power reduce their rates enough to be competitive with the lower rate market? When only a few years ago they had a monopoly in the state, it's obvious they need to do something to keep their remaining customers fast.
