Connecting To Internet Via Satellites
When the Internet was initially launched it took quite a long time for people world-wide to realize its importance
. But slowly as the World Wide Web made its presence felt, everyone wanted to have a share in it. From Dial-Up connections to now broadband, Internet is now fairly accessible to one & all.
satellite Internet. is the way to connect now. Though a newer technology it has found many takers in the Internet consumer field.
Satellites are used as a medium of transmitting signals to & from Earth. There are various types of satellites-GEO-stationary, Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) Satellite & Lower Earth Orbit (LEO) Satellites. Internet satellites mostly belong to the MEO & LEO class of satellites. The use of satellites was initially for communications purposes, involving radio & TV. But as frustration grew regarding the slow & disrupted service provided by Dial-Up connections, mostly the demand for newer technology arose. Thus satellite internet access became popular.
Signals travel up to the satellites located at high altitudes in their respective orbits. The internet satellites then transmit the signals received from the base to the other stations. Mostly Globalstar & Iridium are the LEO satellites used for satellite internet access. The only drawback in using satellites is the delay time or latency period caused by the signal travelling such long distances. Travelling as much as 670-1420 km for Iridium & Globalstar, respectively, generates a delay of milliseconds. In case of Iridium its 40ms while Globalstar has a delay of 125ms. Thus satellite internet access tends to get a bit slower & inadequate for certain purposes.
Also the
satellite internet access believes in fair play. The concept of Fair Access Policy (FAP) restricts the download & usage of data by a consumer after they have surpassed a certain limit. This is however a very negligible concern because the threshold value is set at quite a high limit which allows you to surf the internet hassle-free. Broadband satellites score over dial-up connections with their speed & always on connectivity.
While dial-up connections offer a speed of just 56kbs-kilobytes per second, broadband satellites multiply the speed taking it normally up to 256kbs. And now as technology is improving further, speed plays an important role. Thus the maximum rate of data transfer has reached 4MBps-megabytes per second!
With satellite internet access one doesnt need to login with a password or keep the telephone line busy while surfing the internet. The usage of satellites makes the connection always on, thus saving your time spent in logging in. Also for remote areas, or hilly areas, where its not possible to set up cables for connection,
broadband satellites provide the simplest solution.
So do not refrain from embracing the latest trend & get yourself a broadband connection today. You can enjoy the same services at a much faster rate & also at affordable prices.
