Connectivity Through A Dsl Network
DSL referring to Digital Subscriber Line, is a very high-speed connection that uses same wires as a regular telephone line
. This technology uses two-wire copper
telephone wiring to deliver high-speed data services to businesses and homes alike.
DSL service providers help introducing high-speed internet access within the reach of small and medium-sized companies. This technology involves taking existing
voice cables that connect customer premises to the central office of the phone company turning them into a high speed digital link. It uses an analog system that
converts voice signals into an electrical signal and helps transferring from one device to the other. Traditional devices couldn't make full use of this technology
thus the maximum speeds in which you can find these using a dial-up connection were that of 128kbps. Now you can transfer higher bandwidth data using modulation and
demodulation processes.
Connectivity to the internet is done in two ways, firstly, through a regular modem and the second being through a DSL service provider line. What are the advantages of
a DSL connection? Its main advantage being that a DSL connection is much faster and more stable than a normal dial-up line. You can still use a phone line for voice
calls if you leave on your internet connection. A DSL connection ranges between 128 kbps to 6 mbps while a dial-up only offers a speed upto 128 kbps. New wiring is not
required as it uses the phone line that you already might be using. The company that offers you their DSL connection is the one who usually provides the modem as part
of the installation.
There are certain disadvantages of using the DSL technology as well. The connection is faster for receiving data than for receiving data. The speeds also tend to vary
with the volume of the users. Another disadvantage is that this facility might not be available to you everywhere. There are certain standards that are maintained as
well. For example, as per US and European standards the range for a DSL connection is a maximum of 5.5 kms, while beyond that range most telephone companies use an
optic fiber to extend its reach.
Choose a service provider that offers you maximum benefits. In terms of nationwide coverage availability, modem or other devices installed free of charge or at minimum
costs. Speed does matter so make sure you receive good internet speed, i.e. 5.5 mbps. A faster connection is a better connection after all.
