Conquer the Traffic Hump By Going the Extra Mile

The traffic stats of young sites that are building content and more content sometimes just "take off." Right theme, great material, etc

. Exciting momentum! But others can take longer... 10 visitors one month, 15 the next, maybe back to 10, then 30, then 50, then 40. This is the infamous hump stage.

People sometimes become tired, frustrated, or ready to give up at this stage. After all, it feels as though time is being lost without any returns.

But it is not time lost. It is time invested.

That "hump moment of despair" is exactly the time to go the extra mile. It takes work to build a real business. Just keep saying to yourself...

Write content. Please humans. Please spiders. Get things rolling with a few good links. Let the tools and automation take care of the rest.

Focus on your business and its priorities. Ignore all of the marketing noise that is out there. And then...

Repeat. Do it some more.

When you think you just can't go another step, when you think you just can't get over that hump, when you suffer a setback that wants to make you give up, that's the exact time to take that one more step.

There's a famous story about a Canadian doctor/geologist who drilled to within a few feet of what later became Hemlo, at the time Canada's large gold find. He gave up, just before he would have reached it.

Two superb quotations come to mind...

"There are no traffic jams along the extra mile."

-- Roger Staubach

"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up."

-- Thomas A. Edison

Persevere, to keep on keeping on even when you think (especially when you think!) you just can't keep going on. That is the point where others give up and where you separate yourself from the crowd.

Building a traffic-generating business all boils down to the SBI! process...

First, you have to "get it."

Next, commit to it.

Then... just do it.

Keep doing it.

"It" works.
