Console Sinks For Contemporary Bathrooms And Budget-conscious Homeowners
Some of the trendiest bathroom fixtures nowadays are console sinks
. They're not like your typical sink, as the underside of the washbasin is open and the pipes are exposed. They're not to be mistaken with pedestal sinks, where a post or column holds up the sink part. The back of the washbasin is directly attached to the wall, while the front of it is supported by a pair of legs. They can offer a lot of benefits to a small and modern bathroom.
Easier and cheaper to install than others
These days, stretching the budget is important as everything seems to come with a steep price tag. This kind of bathroom fixture is easier to install than other types of sinks. Best of all, it's cheaper to setup too. That's because shelves or cabinets need not be installed on the bottom part, although they're optional. It's designed that way; that's why it got its name from the console table, which basically looks the same in terms of structuring.
Suitable for modern looking bathrooms
Previous models are usually comprised of elaborately designed washbowls and front legs. They're commonly seen installed in old houses. But nowadays, the elements of the fixtures have taken on a minimalist appeal. That's why they're suitable for installation in bathrooms with modern treatment. However, it's easy to find models that appear vintage, so this should not be a problem for bathrooms with classical treatment.
Extensive design and materials used
The washbasin is usually supported by its legs alone. Depending on the design, space for soap, towel or other necessities may or may not be present. But some models come with a table-like fixture where the legs go, and which also acts as countertop to increase the washbasin's functionality. The materials of the washbasin are extensive, ranging from metal, marble, stone, china to resin.
Increased functionality of the bottom part
Because of the exposed area underneath the washbasin, the pipes are exposed. And this immediately adds a dash of modern look to a bathroom. The legs may also come with a horizontal bar that also serves as a place where a towel can be hung. Depending on your choice, a cabinet or shelf may be installed under the sink part for extra storage area. But when left as it is, it can be decorated with a small ornamental plant, basket or any other decor you have in mind.
Leaving enough room for personalization
Most of the time, the sink comes as a package - washbasin, legs and faucet. But it's also possible to buy the sink part alone, which comes with holes already drilled in it. Then you may have a craftsman create legs according to your taste. Faucet similar to those found in the bathtub or shower may also be purchased separately for a matching look. A huge mirror or medicine cabinet is usually mounted on the wall above the sink for a complete look.
Bathrooms can be given a new look, but without spending a lot, thanks to console sinks. They're ideal for cramped bathrooms to make the most out of available space. Giving your bathroom a makeover can be expensive as the tub, toilet bowl and other large fixtures are difficult to install. But a sink may be easily replaced, and most likely to fit your budget.
