A visit to the Constantia Uitsig wine farm, part of the Constantia wine route, makes a wonderful outing for those staying in Clifton Cape Town at that time of year when the sun sea and sand draws people from all over the country to desire to stay in the Clifton villas.

Constantia Uitsig was known as Constantia View until 1940, it was home to the Lategan family for 5 generations, and their ancestors arrived in South Africa in 1735.

Originally, the Constantia Uitsig wine farm was part of The Dutch Governor to the Cape, Simon van der Stel's, original grant, Groot Constantia.

More recently, in 1988, the farm was bought by the McCay's who have restored the farm to its former glory. Currently, Constantia Uitsig produces award winning wines, three restaurants that are renowned around the world, a cricket oval, a spa and a 16 room hotel.

Constantia Uitsig is just a 20 minute drive from your Clifton Cape Town holiday house the scenic beauty of the valley as the vineyards stretches up the mountain is worth the drive.

The three restaurants on the property are La Colombe, Constantia Uitsig and the River Caf. La Colombe has won numerous awards and has been run by Luke Dale Roberts since 2006 when he was appointed executive chef.

Constantia Uitsig Restaurant is housed in the original Cape Dutch Homestead it offers beautiful views of the mountains and vineyards. Under head chef Clayton Bell guests will be delighted with the widely varied Mediterranean provincial food.

The Rivier Caf, a more relaxed restaurant than the other two, is situated at the entrance to the estate and has been a social haunt of the area. The Restaurant offers less complicated, although no less sumptuous breakfasts, lunches and dinners than the other two restaurants, well worth a trip from your Clifton Cape Town holiday house.
