Constipation In Dogs and How to Resolve It
You really need to try to figure out why they're constipated
. They're not drinking enough water. They have something going wrong in the very end of their GI tract. The large intestine is pulling too much water out.
Maybe you need to add more water to their diet. The big issue involving the large intestine this is not true in cats - in dogs is fiber, fiber, fiber.
Fiber normalizes the stool. Many times, people will add a little bit of rice to their dog's kibble just to get a little more fiber in there - again, to normalize the stool. If it's too watery, it will clip up the water.
If it's too hard, the rice provides some fiber to kind of loosen it up. So you really need to figure out why the dog is constipated. Is the passage through the large intestine too slow, like there is some sort of mobility problem so the small intestine is pulling so much water out of the stool?
Is the dog either not drinking enough water because it doesn't want to drink, or maybe urinating too much water that it can't compensate by drinking enough water so it's in a chronic state of dehydration? You really got to go figure out what the underlying cause is.
By simply starting with water, adding fiber, or rice to your dog's meals, you are going to see a change in it's bowel movements. Usually these simple, very affordable methods can make your dog feel better and you save more money by not taking it to the vet. You can simply go to your local whole foods store and get you pet the fiber it deserves
