Constructing Homemade Bathroom Vanity Fixtures

Highly functional contemporary bathroom furniture pieces such as the vanity is becoming

an important bathroom fixture because of its ability to hold multiple items such as drawers, mirror and the sink. Unfortunately, in this economic situation, purchasing a bathroom vanity is not a practical move for homeowners as it commonly has a high price tag in it. But, if you're creative enough and you have an old cabinet or dresser just waiting for you at your attic, you have the option to make your own vanity for a lesser cost. Below are some simple steps that you could follow to start creating your homemade bath vanity.

Creating modern bathroom vanities from old dressers or cabinets, regardless if they are double sink or single sink vanities, requires few modifications. All you need are the following items: a cabinet or dresser, saw, sink fixtures, pencil, plumbing fixtures, screws, sealant and paint, L-brackets, anchors, and drill. To start your project, measure first your cabinet so that you would know what type of sink you would use. You don't have to worry about your sink because you could still use the sink you have inside your bathroom. However, removing an old sink would only add extra work so it would be much better if you would just purchase a new one.

Set aside your sink as this would not be used during the initial stages of the project. Focus on your cabinet or dresser first; remove all the drawers from your furniture, and at the back of your cabinet cut out a hole big enough for you to properly slide the sink plumbing. Because modern bathroom vanities are stand alone furnishings, it is important to properly measure and mark the plumbing on your wall before making a whole at the back of your cabinet, so that you can be assured that the plumbing would complement your dresser or cabinet once you attach the whole fixture to the wall. If you're done making the holes, sand the rough edges of the holes to create a professional finish.

To mimic the pristine finish of modern bathroom vanities, there are two options to properly install your sink. First, if you are about to use a traditional sink that sits flat on top of a counter, trace the opening of the sink on the top of your cabinet, and then cut out the opening that you have traced with the use of a jigsaw. For the second option, if you're going to use a bowl type sink, make sure to read the instructions contained in the package of your sink that concerns the plumbing hole, and then follow these instructions when cutting the hole. Once you're done cutting the hole, test fit your sink, drain fittings and plumbing connections to ensure that they complement each other.

After fitting, remove the sink first and paint your cabinet or dresser in accordance to your bath space's color scheme or depending on your preferred color. If there are some modifications that you have to attend to, be sure that you do them all before painting your cabinet and before your permanently position your sink. Once your cabinet paint dries up, attach your contemporary bathroom furniture to the wall with the use of a drill, L-brackets and anchors, which would support your vanity. Then, begin installing your sink.

In order to properly position your sink on the countertop, flip your sink over and place a sealant around the inside lip. After doing this, carefully lower your sink to the vanity and remove excess sealant that could affect the exterior appeal of your vanity. Finally, connect the water supply lines to the sink. Now, you can indulge on the beauty and functions of your homemade modern bath vanity.
