Content Management In A Drupal Based Website

In a Drupal based website most of the content is added using the built-in Drupal features

. However if the Drupal developer wants added features which are predominantly content-focused can be added such as contact form, blog etc.

Managing Content

Content for different website changes according to the needs of the customer for whom the website is built or the Drupal programmer. The content expected by the client can be added in the website by using the following Drupal features:

Creating Content

Menu Management

Default Homepage

Forming Content

The process of forming content for a website is a straightforward one. Content can be created once the programmer logs in as the administrator by choosing the Create Content option in the main menu. This option also provides the developer to choose the type of content that needs to be added from numerous options provided by the platform. By adding the eCommerce module the option for adding products can be acquired.

Two major types of content that are added generally are Pages and Stories. Though the information types of both Pages and Stories are the same, Stories reveal the name of the author and the time at which the story was published which is not posted when a page is created. If author and time details are needed to be published then options under theme configuration can be altered to change the default behavior.

Menu Management

Building a website with efficient menus enabling users to navigate through the website seamlessly is a very important development aspect. There are two types of menus which can be used to make a website function efficaciously:

Primary Links

Navigation

The default option that is provided to the Drupal programmers keep the Primary Links in the top and the navigation links are provided in the bottom on the left side of the page. When a new page is added to a website it automatically gets displayed along with other pages in the navigation menu by default.

In the navigation menu under Administrator menu the Site Building the Menus link is provided which when selected allows the Drupal developers to access the Menu Manager. In the Menu Manager the administrator can view the menus that are already available in the website and each menu item that is present in every menu link. Using the Add Menu and Add Menu Item options the Drupal Developers can add new menu links and menu items within the menus respectively.

Default Homepage

In Site Information option in the Site configuration section of the Administration menu can be used by the Drupal experts to set the Default Homepage within the site itself. The URL for the websites homepage can be provided in the Site Information option itself.

These are the ways in which content can be efficiently managed, added and manipulated in a site Drupal based website.
