Controlling toddler Tantrums - Start By Understanding Why
It is not difficult to notice nowadays, that controlling toddler tantrums is no easy thing for many parents. Sometimes one can have enormous sympathy with the harassed mom who is obviously doing her best. The more that can be understood about why such behavior happens, the easier it will be to start to do something about it.
Because our children are such complex little people, there is very definitely no 'one size fits all' solution for the huge problems some parents are faced with. There are so many different forms a tantrum can take, such as screaming and kicking, throwing things and even attacking siblings and mom. It is easy to believe that these actions are caused by whatever they are shouting about at the time - some candy, a toy or some other treat which has been denied them.
This really is not the case in most circumstances. The first thing to remember is that children are not naturally badly behaved. To make the excuse that 'it is just his (or her) way' is to miss signals which the child is sending out.
Shouting about the candy or treat is really their way of letting us know that something in their life is just not right. They are using one of the few methods they know, to get the parent to concentrate their attention here and now. A happy, well balanced child just does not need to go to such extremes, so what is it they are trying to communicate?
The answers can be many and varied, but a good start could be to look at one or two of the real basics. I am a great believer in checking and limiting a child's intake of food additives. Food labels can be a great help, but a great rule is to be fairly wary of anything which has the bright, unnatural looking color, which is so attractive to most children. When this is added to high levels of sugars and sweeteners, there is little doubt that it can have an influence on any child's mood and behavior.
While examining what a child is eating and drinking, making changes could well provide the answers you need. It is unlikely that dramatic changes will take place overnight, but keeping any offending chemicals out of their diet will certainly bring long term benefits.
In this modern complex world,we need new information all the time, to assist us in doing the best for our children. Luckily, there is nowadays a wealth of such information available. Good luck with finding out what you need and I am sure your child will thank you for caring enough to learn what is necessary.
