Conversational Hypnosis: A Farce Or A Fact?

Hypnosis is the state of mind when you are under the influence of an external source

that tries to ingrain thoughts in you, which you end up turning into action. All this happens at a subconscious level and it can be manifested both for the good and the bad. There are many types of hypnosis; conversational hypnosis is one such type of subconscious manipulation of the human mind. Like the name suggests, conversational hypnosis is brought about on target subjects by means of conversation. It does not necessarily take the form of a clinical procedure. Instead conversational hypnosis is done such that you hardly even notice it.

The quintessential conversational hypnotist should possess the ability to develop and deliver a constant flow of ideas. These ideas should flow smoothly and to do so the hypnotist needs a lot of practice. It is a must that every word you speak is never on a commanding note or in any way aggressively instructional. Instead the words are so well picked that they give a sense of comfort to the person being hypnotized and should also be fluid, enjoyable and pleasing to the ears. But before the hypnotist even talks they are supposed to hear out the problems of the person who is seeking the hypnotists help. After they patiently hear them talk, they must try and distract the subject from the ongoing topic. This is done so that the subjects mind is freed with the issues they spoke about and thus paves a way for the hypnotist to easily invoke his advice into the subjects mind.

Milton Ericksons modern ideas of hypnosis have proved the myth behind this concept wrong. His method of conversational hypnosis is being followed in order to help people in need of changing certain crucial habit or attitude in them. The main concept on which Milton Ericksons conversational hypnosis was based on was building rapport with subject. Rapport is a natural way of building connections with a stranger and letting them feel at home. This works a long way in conveying your ideas to them once you have heard their problems out completely.

There are a few basic principles to conversational hypnosis and those are:

1st principle: Choose your words carefully and align them in the order of importance in conveying the right message to the listener. Your flow of ideas should not be interrupted or paused, as this would result in the subject losing focus in the session. You must make the conversation pleasant and enjoyable and build rapport with the person you are hypnotizing.

2nd principle: Remember the signs of trance and as soon as the person goes in to a trance state you should know how to develop a pattern in your conversation by making it plausible or implausible depending on the situation.

3rd principle: Use of piggyback suggestions. This involves the use of truisms where the subject agrees to whatever the hypnotist says and gets into the agreement habit to finally agree on the thing that is the aim of this session.

4th principle: Use linguistic bridges that connect two sets of information together. With the use of linguistic bridges the thoughts and ideas you are trying to convey runs through the listener smoothly.
