Convert Resume To Plain Text
Just to be doubly sure that our task is perfectly safe make sure that our C.V
. document is saved at least in two different places in our computer in Microsoft word format. It would make perfect sense if we emailed it to friend or family member just in case for worst case scenario like a hard drive crash. Further we save our C.V. document by choosing the Save As option from the File menu, we then use the pull- down menu for Save as Type i.e. under the File Name box in order to select Plain Text instead of Microsoft Word Document. We can give this new text file a slightly different name so that it would not be mistaken for the original word document. When a File Conversion window appears we need to check the button for MS-DOS Conversion and the box below it called as Allow Character Substitution and simply click OK after that. We then need to close the document and proceed to the Start menu. Please make a note that when we close the document, we may receive a message that says that the document contains changes not compatible with Word. We just need to click OK to proceed further. Next, we go to the Start menu and click Run and type NOTEPAD within the Open window and click OK. Now a Notepad window will appear. We have to go to File and find the Text File we just created. Then we click on it to open the File. We"ll now see our resume with some lines put together that is normal. But we should remember that in this case many lines might scroll all across the page, to the right most corner which is perfectly ok and expected. It is advised not to change these lines. We can start by adding some extra line space between lines which appear to run together. Our main aim is to provide white space in the file so that it can be easily read. We need to put our phone number, street address email address, resume headings, titles and keyword tables in separate lines. We can add extra lines between each resume section and job so that it is easily comprehended by anyone. Then it is time to go to the File menu and save our changes. In order to preview its appearance in a text box, we can open it back in a Notepad. All we need to is select Edit, then Select All and follow it by copy pasting the text in an email to ourselves. That"s how our C.V, will appear to any reader. If further changes are required we can always provide them by opening file back up in Notepad and then adding white spaces or removing tabs. We can finally use it to apply for jobs which have a section that requires pasting our resume in a specific tab. Just selecting it from the Notepad and pasting it online will do the trick. Easy isn"t it?
