Cookware has a broad meaning in itself; it can be defined in many ways. Generally it can refer to the cooking pots and pans that is used during cooking and is intended to be placed on a stove or range, and this type of cookware should be durable enough to withstand its usage.
One example of this cookware is the sauce pan, which is usually used to make sauces, heat up soup, steam vegetables and many other things that this kind of cookware can be fully utilized. There are different designs of sauce pan, classic sauce pan, Windsor sauce pan, saucier sauce pan, flat bottom pan and the feel good pan, meaning the pan that is feel good in our hands and makes our cooking pleasurable.
Another form of cookware is the frying pan or skillet, as its name suggests it is used for frying and browning our food. It is believed that frying pan was invented in China and was brought to Europe. Before frying pans are made up of cast iron, but lately frying pans have evolved and they are now made up of this materials stainless steel, copper, cast iron, aluminum and clad stainless steel with an aluminum or copper core. Food companies usually used stainless steel cook -wares, although it is more expensive due to its resistance to corrosion and cleaning manageability. Stainless steel does not corrode or rust easily as compared to ordinary steel, but it is not stain proof and low maintenance. These properties of stainless steel helps it an ideal material for industrial applications.
We also have in the market the non stick pans, whose non stick surfaces was discovered by Dupont in 1956 and introduced in the market under the Teflon brand name. It also interesting to note that, these non stick pans should not be heated above 250C, because at this certain temperature, the non stick pan it will release toxic fumes resulting to the reaction of its non stick coatings.
There are also different kinds of non-metallic cookware, and these are the ceramics, glass, glass-ceramic and silicone. Ceramics cookwares provide non-stick surfaces. Glass cookware, are safe at oven temperatures, and example of this is the famous brand, Pyrex which can withstand high temperatures. While glass-ceramic cookware, combines the properties of glass and ceramic, to cite an example is the brand name Corningware. Lastly is the silicone cookware, with its flexible properties help remove baked products easier, and this type of material is light and can withstand high temperatures too.
