Cool Things To Do In Edinburgh This Christmas

A Christmas trip to Edinburgh needn't be a stressful shopping exercise, there is so much more to discover in the capital at Christmas time.

There are of course the usual suspects returning for another season of winter wonder, from the ice rink and the German market in the gardens, to the array of pantomimes on at the many theatres throughout town. However, there are a few more treats to be discovered this year if you want to truly enjoy the Edinburgh Christmas programme.

For the children and for the child inside us all the many fun-filled activities lined up on Princes Street and in the gardens range from some playtime in a giant snowglobe (in which you can have your picture taken), to the Bubblepods, in which kids can roll around in within (or rather on top) of a pool of water. In addition to this, there is the Bungy Snowdome at the Princes Mall; a far safer variation on the bungy jump, and resembling a giant baby's bouncy swing.

For the adults, why not re-discover the back alleys and underground streets of the Old Town with a

guided tour. The historic parts of the city are revealed with a Christmas take on the original tours. Alternatively, there are a number of classic films on at various venues such as the Filmhouse, and a number of readings of classic Christmas stories such as Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol '; perfect for all the family.

If that wasn't enough to get your teeth into, what about the Christmas Art Competition held at the National Museum of Scotland. Enter the museum, find a favourite image to draw, and get to it.

If, following a day of activity and discovery, you require a bit of TLC, this cosmopolitan city has a vast array of restaurants and accommodation on offer. Fine dining is never far away, and with the plethora of cool hotels in Edinburgh, you won't be short of luxurious accommodation.
