Coping After Cremations Or Funerals

Preparing for cremations or funerals can be testing for most people as there is much to organize while still dealing with all the emotional upheaval

. When all is said and done, people need to get back into the day to day to living. This can be easier said than done for many people.

The one thing that you should not lose sight of is that you must acknowledge your feelings. Some people try to suppress their grief, just for it to surface again later. However, when it resurfaces it can turn into complicated emotional issues such as health problems, substance abuse, depression and anxiety.

To avoid complicated issues later on, it is important to express your emotions in a creative way. Most of us have lost loved ones without having said some of the important things that we wanted to. Instead of berating yourself for this, write him or her a letter to say all those things.

It is common to be angry with the person who has died. Express that by writing to them or by crying or talking to someone about it. You could even join an organization or a cause that was important to your loved one. You must allow yourself to feel every emotion fully and experience mourning fully in order to allow yourself to move on.

Your body and your mind are interconnected. Therefore you should take care of your body for your mind to feel better. Exercise, healthy eating and sufficient sleep help to combat stress and tiredness. Avoid the urge to use artificial mood lifters like drugs or alcohol to make you feel better. They only help for a short while and you will feel a lot worse afterwards.

Emotions can't be prescribed by family and friends or even by yourself. You own the grief that you feel and you can express it in any way that doesn't harm you or those around you. There is also nothing wrong with finding joy in certain moments as that is a way of celebrating a person's life.

It is normal for birthdays, anniversaries and holidays to trigger emotions. By planning ahead for these events, you will know how to react to other relatives during those times. Everyone could find a good way to honor the deceased loved one during this time. Just because cremations or funerals are over does not mean that you cannot honor a person.
