Cordoba And Its Wonderful History On Spain Holiday Rentals
When taking a look at SPAIN HOLIDAY RENTALS don't just consider the theme parks or
a wildlife sanctuary as a basis for your vacation and don't be like the normal tourist only coming here for the sun, sea and sand. Spain is unique in what it has to offer starting with churches, cathedrals, museums, castles and places that Mother Nature was overly generous with.
If it is cathedrals that you are into, then the La Mezquita will more than satisfy your needs. It is the most visited cathedral in the Cordoba province of Spain. Some historians believe that a mosque existed on this spot long before the cathedral. This imposing building is only enhanced by the beautiful arches, sculpture and paintings that are displayed inside. The cathedral took centuries to build and as a result the different styles of architecture included here are Gothic, Roman, Syrian Byzantine and Persian. Its interesting to note that this cathedral was sanctified as a Cathedral in 1236 which was before the demise of the Moors.
Also in the province of Cordoba is another place of interest: the Castle Montilla. As with most castles this one sits atop a mountain. The historians believe the castle was built sometime in the 5th century. This rather large castle was actually large enough to have a palace built within its walls. The terrace is able to house approximately 400 horses. All this adds up to a castle that is battle ready.
Cordoba which is also home to a number of museums and the shrine La Juderia that was built by the Jewish people honouring the intellectuals and scholars of Cordoba. The La Juderia is believed to have been built at some point in time during the Romans and Gothic occupation. It is also believed that this shrine was built to honour and pay homage to the Roman Philosopher Seneca. The builders of this shrine saw fit to place the name of Averroes who was an Arabian Philosopher on this monument; there is also a Jewish Philosopher called Maimonides who is remembered here. Take note of the fact that this shrine is popular because some of its artefacts are made of gold and silver. A lot of people believe that the work on the precious metals is so superior that it would challenge the best silversmiths of today. This shrine is a definitely worth the trip here.
