Coronary Heart Disease And Guidelines

Over the past hundred years medical science has proven that there is an unmistakable link between what you eat and coronary heart disease

. If you are therefore diagnosed with high levels of cholesterol, for example, don't despair. There is something you can do about it. Below we will briefly discuss coronary heart disease and guidelines on how to overcome it.

What science has discovered is that high levels of the so-called 'bad' cholesterol, known as Low Density Lipoproteins or LPL will indeed increase your chances of getting coronary disease. The so-called 'good' cholesterol, known as High Density Lipoproteins or HDL, actually fights this process and helps to break down plaque in your arteries.

It makes sense, therefore, that eating foods that encourages the production of LDL in the body should be avoided. It also makes sense to eat more foods that increase the production of HDL. Examples of the first group are dairy products and all foods that are high in polyunsaturated fats. Examples of the second group include all foods that are low in polyunsaturated fats such as green vegetables and most fruits. Also eat a lot of whole grain foods.

A moderate exercise program is also imperative if you don't want to become the victim of coronary disease. During the process of exercise, your body burns excess fats which will otherwise have to be stored by the body. Don't overdo this, though: start with a couple of aerobic exercises every day and walk briskly for thirty minutes on a daily basis.

When you are diagnosed with coronary disease, the doctors will no doubt come forward with some suggestions. Often this will include invasive surgery such as a hearty bypass operation or coronary angioplasty. Recently coronary laser treatment has also become an option. There are, however, many who believe that coronary disease can be reversed by changing your diet, adding the correct supplements and getting enough exercise.

The argument here is that the invasive techniques used by mainstream physicians do not solve the underlying cause of the problem. If your lifestyle and diet is behind your coronary disease, a heart bypass will only temporarily solve the problem. You have to permanently adapt your lifestyle and learn to eat a healthy and balanced diet before you will be permanently rid of the problem.

The above discussion of coronary heart disease and guidelines to improve your prognosis is only an introduction. To make a sound decision, you need all the facts. Discuss your options therefore with both your physician and someone who is an expert in alternative health therapy.
