In general, the more you are thinking you are going to have to invest in the cost of wind turbines, the more careful you need to be in collecting and assimilating the data.

In the final analysis, you need to be thinking along the lines of accuracy of fit in order to achieve the lowest cost of wind turbines for your home. The project at your house is not really that different than what wind engineers face when trying to analyze a large commercial project, only the stakes are not quite as high at home because the unit investment is less. You don't want to hold off so long and analyze so much though that you miss out on a lot of wind energy, but you need to dig in enough to directionally at least understand the size of wind turbine kit that will serve you best.
