Could A Slow Metabolism Be Making You Fat?

If you have steadily been putting on weight over a period of time and are not eating

any more food than you normally eat it is likely to be because your metabolic motor has slowed. The reason that is has slowed is easy - you have lost muscle tissue.

The amount of muscle tissue on the human body is what drives the metabolism (the body's engine) and the rate it burns fuel - which is the food you eat. Once we get past our mid 20's unless we actively work to keep it we lose muscle at the rate of one half pound per year. This loss continues throughout our life with this rate doubling after age 50.

If you have been watching the numbers on your bathroom scales continuing to slowly climb over a period of time and you do not want the excess weight to spoil your appearance and add huge health risks to your life there is one thing you can do to change this situation. Build back your lost muscle tissue.

There is only one way to do this and it is with strength training exercise. No amount of starving yourself or hours of low intensity 'cardio' activity can ever get you slim again.

You need to get yourself into a gym and seek the help of a fitness professional who can set up your program and show you the true path back to slimness.

Muscle tissue is where fuel (calories) is burnt for energy so restoring its health and fat burning capability is paramount in the weight loss battle. Just 2-3 sessions each week are all that is needed if the exercises are done properly and properly means with the correct level of intensity (degree of effort) as well as good technique. For best results the program needs to be changed regularly and progress monitored.

Although our metabolism does slow down as we get older it has little to do with the number of candles on our birthday cake. But it does have everything to do with how well we look after our muscular system. Unless we have a job with manual labor or "work" in it we all need to add an intentional strength training program into our lives. This is the only way to keep our muscle tissue in healthy condition so we can remain strong, slim and healthy.

Becoming overweight and over fat is just a by product of not doing enough muscle building and maintaining activity throughout our adult lives. A healthy fat burning metabolism is the key to good overall health and all it takes to keep it that way or reboot it again is just a couple of good workout sessions each week.

The simplicity and effectiveness of strength training exercise as the only solution to lasting weight loss has been drowned in the mass of incorrect information and hype by the weight loss industry. Everyone is looking for a quick fix or magic answer and most people ignore or simply do not see what is right under their noses.

Strength training exercise that works the muscular system properly is the answer they are looking for - they simply do not know it yet.
