Could Blogging Be The New Form Of Journalism?
Ever wonder why almost all teenagers today are addicted to the internet
? Well you could say the internet has everything a young exploring mind needs. From browsing the net for homework help, shopping, cooking ideas, computer gaming, video and music downloads, and keeping up with friends through social networking, or blogging.
Yes, all of these things are a part of a teenagers life nowadays which we could never have comprehended in our youth. Dont believe me? Then try having a surf on the internet now and see how much information there is available today through a click of a mouse or tap of a key.
Apart from being a window for the readers to see whats on the authors mind, a blog lets him elaborate on facts or thoughts, or pour out whatever idea that pops out of his head. A blog is a simplified term for web blog-a new generation medium for writing articles, essays, how-to guides, travel journals, book reviews, information about new products, statements and the like. You name it, theres probably a blog about it!
Its usually composed of texts or sometimes accompanied by pictures, videos and multimedia topics. If youre tired of jotting down every single detail of your lifes events and happenings on paper, why not try the new fad of journalism which is blogging. Blogging literally means sharing a comment of life through the internet.
It is an up-to-date information source. A sequence of events in a persons life. A timeless exhibit of creativity and style. An outlet for ones interests and passions.
The popularity of blogs comes because of their very nature. Anyone can write anything that comes out of his or her head. It could be as simple as a walk on a sunny day or a breathtaking dip into California s wild waters, it serves as a diary and is readily updated with new experiences or thoughts. Whats good about blogging is that it is not bound by editing constraints, and is cheap, or in some cases completely free.
The commercial velocity of a blog depends on a writers instinct to create worthy content to fill their blog posts. Either formative or informative, rational or irrational, for as long as the readers can visualise what the author has posted, your blog will be a great hit.
Technical specialties and skills are not necessary. You have complete publishing freedom within your blog, which is an advantage. All that is needed is for you to have a creative or witty mind, a desire to share ideas with others, or part of your life story, and a bit of knowledge to be able to use the internet. Grammatical errors are welcome, and can often show just how human you actually are. There are no editors or publishing companies to please, so you can write about whatever you wish. Blogging is essentially journalism without rules or guidelines to follow, and whats best is that readers of your blog could post a comment back to you, or be inspired to write one themselves.
Blogging is not difficult if you have the right ingredients. Its not just a simple-text article, a blog may be enhanced or converted into other types of blog, like an audio blog or a video blog. Nowadays, blogs are far more sophisticated and advanced. Elements of a blog start from a good and captivating headline down to the authors personal profile. Included herewith are the blog post, permalink (combined term for permanent link), and the readers comments about each blog post.
A friend of mine is a regular blogger. She entertains herself by posting blogs on her web page for fun. She told me that blogging is an advantage for her to speak to the world about the things thats keeping her shut down. And I quote, I am an internet junkie. I am not a big fan of journalism or any kind of writing.
But it all changed when blogging fever entered every day internet society. I think I appreciated it more when I felt everything that was written was real, and not just a means to promote a business or new product. Right then, I became a part of a bigger picture.
If you find yourself trapped in a world of unwanted opinions, blogging can be a great benefit. But everything has its own consequences. Blogs are much harder to maintain and manage than that of the standard broadcast media. In politically sensitive issues, blogs can be considered as a political misfit. You can gag the press, but you will have your work cut out for you if you try to gag thousands of blogs. But even politicians today are turning their ears and eyes to the internet to gather information about the true thoughts, opinions and moods of the general public. Makes you wonder if high-profile political campaigns pushed through TV and the media are missing out on something?
Nevertheless, blogging is still out there growing stronger every day. So if youre the type who has the savvy for writing, give blogging a shot. You never know how much it would contribute to society, and even to your pocket.
