Countries Most Suitable For A Family Safari To Africa.
The most important thing to get right when planning your family safari is where to head for
.
A family safari also develops an inquisitive and enquiring mind. A safari in Africa with your family is possibly going to be one of the best holidays you'll enjoy as a family everyone can let their hair down and breathe real nature.
Unless you know in which country you would like to focus your family safari we will suggest a location based initially on the age of your children. This helps to ensure that your immediate environment whilst on a family safari holiday in Africa is suitable for your little ones, whether they are infants, or about to fly the nest we know that the most important thing to you as parents is their safety and enjoyment and suitability to their unique age group.
It's likely that if you have very young children we would recommend South Africa, it's easily accessible, hotels and lodges often have the facilities available that you're used to at home, you are close to a wide range of attractions including the chance to enjoy a few days on safari, and if at any point your little one feels under the weather a GP is only a short drive away. All of these factors mean that parents can relax and unwind in the South African sun and children have a wide variety of animal sanctuaries, aquariums, museums and beaches for crab and shell collecting on to keep them entertained. A family safari in South Africa we would usually suggest features Cape Town for a few days, the Winelands for a night, a drive along the Garden Route stopping of in coastal towns and villages along the way followed by a few nights in a safari lodge, where there are guides that can take your little ones on nature walks around camp whilst you treat yourself to a spa treatment or Game drive for an hour or so.
If your children are a little older, full of energy and jumping up and down at the thought of going to Africa to see 'Simba' then you might still choose South Africa for your family safari, but you could venture a little further away from home comforts and try Kenya.
Kenya is fabulous for a family safari. Your family can enjoy game drives during the day and night giving your children the exceptional opportunity to learn about animal behaviour from big cats stalking their next meal to elephants caring for their young. Watch the herds of wildebeest migrate in search of food and you'll all gain an amazing insight into Kenya's delicate balance between man and the wild. Along the way you might meet orphaned elephant calves, young male lions recently cast out from their pride to build their own and Wildebeest looking lost on the plains but knowing full well where they're headed. Kenya also might offer the chance to float inconspicuously above the wildlife in a Hot Air Balloon, or enjoy a day or two at a beach on an exotic island such as Lamu where you can relax and absorb the Swahili culture.
If your children are teenagers or older you might like to try Zambia as there are some wonderful Safari Houses staffed by a house manager, chefs and guides, to make your family safari a very personal experience indeed. Of course you might alternatively like to stay at one of the very comfortable tented camps from which there are a few that we in particular like to suggest due to excellent reports from families we have sent there. In Zambia there is a rich diversity of activities, from setting out on foot from camp with your guide in search of elephant, to canoeing down a river negotiating the slow meandering bends and watching the animals along the banks. You can also tiger fish (catch and release policy), enjoy fabulous game drives safe in the knowledge that you won't be bumping into throngs of minibuses. You even might like to spend the night out fly-camping to really get close to nature. Zambia is perfect for the active family and will not disappoint.
As you can see when travelling with a family on safari it is important to consider your location and then select the right camp or lodge to truly make your safari holiday one to remember (and for the right reasons.)
