Courier Company Delivery Pricing
Every courier company is going to have somewhat of a different process that they
use for coming up with the prices that they charge on every delivery that they send out. Despite those differences, there are also going to be industry wide similarities in how prices are arrived at. A Las Vegas courier service might end up charging a totally different amount than one that is based in New York, but there are going to be a few things that are the same when it comes to how those prices are arrived at.
The first thing that is going to almost always be the same is the two elements which form the base of all courier prices. These are the size and weight of your shipment, and the distance that you are shipping something. These represent the most basic way for the courier to estimate their costs in terms of the space in their vehicles and the time of their employees.
The next piece of information that will greatly affect your price is the delivery option that you choose. Most couriers have a wide range of options that impact how long it is going to take for your delivery to be completed. When you choose the regular or economy option, the price will be much the same as the number that was calculated based on the size and distance of the shipment. Faster options like next day, same day, rush, or one hour are going to cost more. Any time air travel plays a part the cost is likely to go up a considerable amount.
Then, on top of these base rates there are charges which are assessed for any equipment that you might need. For instance, if a crane is needed for loading heavy objects, a fee will be charged. There will also be a fee if you're shipping cargo over 100lbs without a loading dock and you have to rent a liftgate.
Most courier companies also charge fees and surcharges if you're making any kind of special requests, such as a pickup or a delivery on a holiday, or weekend deliveries for companies that are normally only open Monday through Friday. There are 24/7 couriers that this won't apply to, but they will still have their own fees and surcharges, such as an extra fee if you want a delivery picked up in a residential area rather than from a business.
