Courtroom Thrillers from John Grisham

The famous author John Grisham is most famous for his courtroom dramas and all his titles are well known for having two words only, examples are The Firm and The Client. He already had a ten year old courtroom career as a lawyer before he decided to become a writer. John Grisham was born in Arkansas and brought up in Mississippi and he brings two unique perspectives to his novels that of a lawyer and a southerner.

A Ten Year Law Career

He was born in 1955 and his parents were a construction worker and a homemaker. His family shifted base to Mississippi when he was very young. He completed his graduation from Mississippi State University and completed Law School also there. He worked as a trial lawyer for about ten years in Southaven and then started his writing career. For six years, John Grisham has also served in the Mississippi State House of Representatives.

Writing Is an Obsession

The writing career of John Grisham started as an obsessive hobby as he used to work on his novel in early morning which was titled as A Time to Kill. Although this book was based on a real court case, the story of the novel was varied a bit. He explored the possibility that if a father of a rape victim had killed the accused, how would he, as a lawyer, defend him? Several publications rejected the manuscript which was published by Wynwood Press in 1988.

Different Genres

One novel from John Grisham, named Playing for Pizza, was out in Sept 2007. It was not the usual courtroom drama that one usually expects from John Grisham and that's the reason it was noticed differently.

The Second Novel Was a Huge Success

His second novel was more successful which was sold to be converted into a film before a publisher could be found for it. This deal alone was worth $600,000 and John Grisham was a full time author now. The novel itself sold over seven million copies and ruled the bestseller list of New York Times for 47 weeks. He has stayed away from his law practice for a long time, though he has continued to churn out bestsellers with an unfailing regularity. Currently, John Grisham and his wife and their two children live at their homes in Oxford, Mississippi and Charlottesville, Virginia.
