. There are many ways to scent your home such as room sprays, plug-ins, and candles. Candles tend to be the choice of most people because they are long lasting and have a pretty glow from the flame. But candles are not always safe. Over a four year period from 2003 - 2007 there was an average of 42 fires/day caused by candles. That's a scary statistic. There are alternatives though, that can also create that inviting feeling in your home without the risk of an open flame.

Room Sprays

Some people have moved to room sprays. These create a strong burst of scent that lingers and eventually dissipates. Room sprays require a constant replenishing of the scent to keep it going. Some room sprays can have essential oils or fragrance oils which need to be kept away from electronics and even carpet and upholstry. Linen sprays tend to be much safer for fabrics but lack the staying power of traditional room sprays.

Reed Diffusers

These long reeds are placed in a container with a scented oil which wicks up the reed and creates a slow but steady scent. This is a nice option, and works well for people who have very sensitive noses, but because the output is very minimal, many find that the reeds don't emit a strong enough scent to fill a room. There is also the danger of the oil being split and leaving a nasty oil stain.

Wickless Candles

Wickless candles are a newer option and seem to be catching on and becoming quite popular. Wickless candles operate by melting the candle bar over a light bulb housed in a beautiful decorative warmer. The consumer can customize their scent by determining how strong it is (number of cubes melted) and can even mix and match scents to create new scents. Because the candle bar melts at very low temperatures there is no risk of scalding if the wax is touched and the risk of fire is diminished to the same level as a low wattage lamp, nearly void.
