Facebook fan pages are great for introducing your business to an unlimited amount of people. When someone becomes a fan, this shows up on their profile Wall where all of their friends can see it. If those friends join, then it will show up on their profile Wall and so on!

To create a fan page go to the bottom of your profile page and click "Advertising", it is in small blue print. On the top of the new page you will see 4 choices, click on "Pages". It has a flag next to it.

Once you have gone through that, you can click on a green button near the top of the page "Create a Page". After you have set up your fan page, you will have the option to connect with Twitter. This app will show every item you post on your fan page wall on your Twitter page. You may or may not want to do this. If you are unsure, don't connect, you can always connect at a later time.

Adding good content to your page will draw new fans and keep them coming back on a regular basis to see what is new. On your Wall, you can post links to your site, your blog news articles, product photos, videos and events. On your Info page you can add your business information and website link. On the Discussion page you can start a forum and share articles. This is also a great place for reciprocal links. There are several more areas you can add to your fan page such as photos, events, links, notes, videos and reviews.

Now that your page is set up and full of useful content, you need to introduce it to fans. You can send invites to everyone you are friends with on your profile page. A good way to invite them is to post the request on their wall. This way, not only will they see your fan page, but all of their friends will see the page as well.

A free marketing outlet is to use cross promotion via reciprocal marketing. This is as simple as swapping links and articles. As I mentioned earlier, the Discussion area is a great place for reciprocal links. You can add just links to other businesses or have them write an article about their business and post it on the wall.

Another way to get more fans is to show appreciation and promote the ones you have. Write a Thank You note on the wall of everyone who joins and be sure to add the link to your fan page so all of their friends can visit your page and join. Promote your fans by adding a link to their business on your wall. Visit your fans pages often and see what they have added. You can then use the Share button or link to add what they post to your page. After you have shared something, leave a comment on how much you enjoyed their post and let them know that you have just shared it on your page. Not only will that person appreciate your free promotion, they are likely to reciprocate and post about you!

If you are on Twitter, you can add an App (application) that will share whatever you post on you fan page to your Twitter account. You may or may not want to do this depending on how often you post and your content. If you don't add the app, you can always link your page to Twitter to share what you have posted. A downside to using the Twitter App is it will direct visitors to your fan page. If someone does not use Facebook they will have trouble viewing the link.

There are Facebook groups where you can network and share expert advice. If someone sends you a thank you for answering a question or wants to become your friend you can send them a link to your fan page in the reply email.

You know your customers better than anyone. Do they respond to contests or free consultations? If so then offer those through your fan page. Having a fan page can be overwhelming. I recommend that you pick a minimum of one day a week to add content and socialize with your fans and friends.
