Okay so, now your mouth is gasping for air, wondering if it's true. You reason, it's potentially a plausible future and think to yourself; Holy Crap!
But shouldn't you be saying; the Ultimate Holy Grail of Alan Turing. Precisely my point, and since I like to think into the future on this stuff, how can it not eventually happen? After all, that's what the R and D people are working on now! It's coming, I can see it plain as day and I wonder are you humans ready for it?
Let me explain to you an interim step, I see designing software which can out create humans, and forget about all the "off-the-shelf" stuff because I'd like to remind everyone that unless you can out think every clever little human out there, you cannot truly have an original thought, as they've already thought of it. Therefore why does anyone need you or I thinking here?
Indeed, I am convinced that we can design a computer to come up with ideas and new concepts borrowing technology from one sector or industry to the next. In fact, I think I know how to make such a program now. First, I would use all the languages of the world, and all the potential similar words of spelling and meaning to crisscross, and to have them cross-pollinate. That's all the humans are doing anyway when they come up with innovations or borrow from one sector to another, usually, as there are very few original thoughts, once you sift through the debris.
These folks are not 'really creative' and if they think logically they are not needed, computers can do that. Mostly humans imitate, you know like chimpanzees and other lower life forms. Ha ha ha, but seriously it's true. I once took words which started with Aa, Ab, Ac, Ad, etc. and combined them with words which started with Aa, Ab, Ac, Ad, and Ba, be, etc. and combined them into titles for articles, and then tried to explain what they meant in the realm of future technologies. In doing so I stumbled upon a methodology to create new original thoughts, 100s of them in fact. It worked, I surprised myself, which got me to think on the potential here.
Now, consider how easy it would be to teach a machine to do that, using EVERY WORD in EVERY LANGUAGE - unlimited combinations and lots of original thoughts. We can make an AI computer that can duplicate that, and it will become creative in doing so. Well, I can teach and AI computer to do that, and once it has a good command of all the languages, it will come up with new innovations and original thoughts too. It's a "no brainer" really. When I explained this to a fellow think tanker, Troy Laclaire, he said; "it may come up with some, but I don't see an AI being able to have a "eureka" type moment.
Hmm, well, I do, but of course the AI system will not realize it has, until it does a search, to discover if it is an original thought, which IBM's "Watson" can do you know. Something that you have a problem with when searching online, but AI doesn't. See that point? It can readily see if it is "original" or not, and if not, disregard and keep going, so it could come up with most all of the future original thoughts for the next 100-years in a few minutes or less. Don't you see it? Think about it for a moment? See what I am saying? This is what I am thinking. I want to think ahead of all the humans, not amongst them at a snail's pace.
Unconvinced, Troy states; "well, it could be possible, but I would have to see it to believe it." Well, I say create it, then look at it, then believe it or not Ripley! Ha ha ha.
