Credit Card Help- Tips to get out of debt
If you are like most people you credit card debt is constantly growing
. With the economy down and the unemployment rate rising daily, it is hard not to turn to credit cards for your purchases. Now is the time to stay disciplined and not let the debt get out of control. Here are some tips I have used to pay off debt.
1) Quit carrying credit cards on your person. If you don't have it on you, you can't use it. Most of the times when we make purchases they are impulse buys. Not a necessity that we need to survive (if it is an emergency use the card). Good way to put the card, is to put it in a Ziploc bag half full of water and then put it in the freezer. Might sound weird to freeze your credit card, but the logic behind it is that by the time your card thaws out, you will not want to use it if it is an impulse purchase.
2) Evaluate your life style and spending habits. For example if you eat out for lunch every day and spend only $5, that still adds up to $150 a month! A lot places it cost more than $5 for lunch, you could spend easy $200 plus a month. If you quit eating out for lunch that is extra money to apply to your debt. Get a news papers to find coupons for the grocery store and on one of your days off prepare your meals for the week. You can eat healthier and save money!
3) Another thing to look at, how often do you go shopping for clothes, music, anything that is not a necessity? If you are in credit card debt is it logical to go buy stuff you really don't need? No it's not and especially if you are using your credit card! If you find something you want, then find away to save a couple extra dollars a month to put aside for that item and once you have the cash saved buy it.
4) Cut back on going out. Where ever it is you go for fun, if it cost money don't go as often. It is going to be hard to tell your friends you are going to sit this time out, but in the long run when you pay off your credit cards it will be worth it.
If you really want to get out of credit card debt, you can do it! Although it is not going to be easy and will take a lot of discipline, but the end result will be worth it. Stay focused on your goals, write them down and set attainable goals. When you get frustrated look back at what you have accomplished and read your goals and refocus on getting debt free! I am living proof it can be done and it is a great feeling of accomplishment. Remember if it was easy everybody would do it!
